We went over more SBAC editing questions. Then we did a group discussion task about cinematic techniques. By today, you should have one reading journal completed for the new trimester.
December 5
We went over some of the SBAC editing questions and then watched the beginning of Stave 3. If you missed this day, even for the basketball tournament, you need to find a version of the video to watch or come to my scheduled viewing on Monday, December 9 during lunch.
December 4
I shared your SBAC editing interim score so that you understand the results better. Then students completed, graded, and turned in the "Twisted Sentences" assignment from Oliver Twist. You should have read through the end of Stave 3 by now.
December 3
We did an assignment in Google Classroom that compared the film version of the segment of Oliver Twist with the text. You can do the work on your own in Google Classroom.
December 2
We were in the Writing Center. The main thing we did was an SBAC interim assessment on editing. This will have to be made up at school with Dr. Haring. After that, students had the chance to re-do their questions on Oliver Twist and then to work on No Red Ink. Those things can be done independently!
November 25-26
These two days before Thanksgiving, we did work on types of sentences. Ask me for the handouts. We also watched part of Stave 2 of "A Christmas Carol."
November 22
Today we did work on Common Lit, using a text by Dickens. The assignment is in Google Classroom.

Today we watched Stave One of a film version.
November 18, 19, 20
We started reading "A Christmas Carol" and spent time finishing up reading journals.

We are working all this week on an informative essay over your social studies person. Everything is explained with links and documents in Google Classroom. Go there and start with the project timeline.
Novmber 7 and 8
We finished the prefix pretest and went over it. Ask a classmate for the notes.
November 6
We finished typing the prose poems and printed them. Then students worked in No Red Ink.
November 5
We used the organizers from last week to type prose poems in the style of "Four Skinny Trees."

Portfolio Day! Ask Dr. Haring for directions.

We finished the "What do Zoos do?" assignment and started on a prefix pretest.

Today we went over and turned in the organizers. Then students read an article about zoos and did some related tasks. Ask for this when you return.

Because of the assembly, we had a reading and journaling day in all classes. Students should make sure their organizers are complete and that they have five journals complete.

We finished LAPS and then I introduced a prose poetry assignment. The organizer is due Monday.

We did LAPS with "Four Skinny Trees" focusing on literary terms.
October 23
Today we read and talked about "Four Skinny Trees." It's on page 482 of the text book, or you can find it online. Get the literary terms notes from someone.

Today we typed the CEAEAL paragraphs in Google Classroom.
We also started using a new thing, No Red Ink.
October 21
Today we reviewed the story "Antaeus" and wrote a CEAEAL paragraph about it. Ask me for the prompt list.
October 16
Read "Antaeus" by Borden Deal from the text starting on page 468 (or Google it). Do LAPS notes.
October 15
Get the handout "Egg" from Dr. Haring. Get the metaphor notes from a friend.
October 14
Finish revisions with your partner and turn in the revisions and your final copy to Google Classroom.

We are working on This I Believe essays. Your packet from the week of September 23 will be helpful. Other than that, materials are in Google Classroom.

We listened to the essay "We’re All Different in Our Own Ways" by Joshua Yuchasz . You can find it on the This I Believe website and record information about it on your packet. Also do one of the writing prompts and define more of the value words.

Fall Fun Day and early out. We didn't have class!

Today we turned in the "Taking a Risk" essay. Then we listened to an essay from This I Believe. org. You can choose one on your own and write information about it on your packet.
September 23
Today we reviewed LAPS. You will need to get the notes from a friend or from the resources page on this website. Also, I assigned an article, "Taking a Risk." Get that from me and follow the directions.
September 19 and 20
In class, you had two additional days to complete these things: five works cited entries, final copy of biopoem, first reading journal, and decorating your biopoem.
September 16 and 17 and 18
On these days, we are in the library reviewing research techniques, website evaluation, plagiarism and works cited.
The assignment we will start on the 17th is in Google Classroom. Basically, you will create a works cited page with five specific entries to practice finding and citing resources.
September 9-13

Friday, September 13
Today we typed biopoems. More directions are in Google Classroom, so go there.
Also, I will be adding a work ethic grade for the syllabus task by Monday. Make sure you have done that!
Thursday, September 12
Today we reviewed and practiced imagery. Add imagery to at least two sentences in your biopoem. Also get the notes from someone to add to your language terms page.
Wednesday, September 11
Today we worked on sentence structure. Make sure you have a simple, a compound, and a complex sentence in your biopoem. Also get the notes from someone to add to your language terms page.
Tuesday, September 10
Today we did steps two and three on the biopoem assignment sheet. First, choose 15 of your items from Monday. Then write one sentence about each one. Try to have variety and specificity in your sentences! Make sure I see your list of 45 things when you return.

Today we did step one on the biopoem sheet. Just make a list of 45 things about your self and your life, such as your favorite food, activities you like, accidents you have had, or accomplishments you have enjoyed.
